35% decline in active cases in India, 2nd wave seems to be waning in 24 states

Amid a rise in testing, decline in case positivity rate and improvement in recovery rate, 24 states in the country have shown a dip in active cases since last week, stated the health ministry.

The ministry emphasized that while it is reassuring that the second wave is waning, there should be no leniency in containment measures as well as following COVID-appropriate behavior. The active COVID-19 caseload in the country currently stands at 24.2 lakh, with a dip of 35% from 37.4 lakh active cases on May 9. On average, over 20 lakh tests are being done every day for the past 9 days. The average weekly positivity declined over the last three weeks from 21.5% from April 29-May 5 to 10.4% from May 20-26… (ET Healthworld – TNN, May 28, 2021)
