January 30 to be recognized as World NTD Day

Delegates participating in the virtual Seventy-fourth World Health Assembly unanimously endorsed a decision which recognizes 30 January as World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day (‘World NTD Day’).

World NTD Day was first informally celebrated in the year 2020. In 2021, several events were conducted globally, which included the illumination of iconic buildings to draw attention to the suffering caused by these diseases. This represents a new beginning for countries where neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are prevalent. Several Member States had key roles to play in arriving at a consensus around World NTD Day, and the decision, proposed by the United Arab Emirates, was universally adopted… (WHO, May 27, 2021)
