Immunity to the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19 could last for a year, may be even longer, especially after COVID-19 vaccination, reported The New York Times.

Two new studies suggest that most people who were infected with COVID-19, recovered and then received vaccination later may not require a booster dose. However, people who never contracted the infection and then got vaccinated may need a booster dose later, stated The New York Times.

Both the studies analyzed individuals who were exposed to COVID-19 about a year ago. In a study published in Nature, it was noted that some immune cells may survive in the bone marrow of those who had contracted the infection and were vaccinated afterwards. These immune cells may develop antibodies when needed. In the second study published on the bioRxiv pre-print server, investigators noted that the memory B cells can grow and strengthen for at least 12 months following the initial infection... (Medscape)
