Vietnam tests entire city amid fears of new coronavirus variant

Vietnam intends to fight a fresh COVID-19 outbreak by testing the entire population in Ho Chi Minh City. It also gears to introduce new social distancing measures.

The move comes after a new cluster of infections was identified linked to a religious mission. Cases have been on the rise over the past weeks in Vietnam. Officials have also warned of a new dangerous hybrid variant identified in the country. According to the government, the new variant is a combination of the variants first detected in India and the UK, and is easily transmissible by air.

The fresh outbreak in Ho Chi Minh City involves a Christian mission which reported around 125 positive cases, and is responsible for most of the citys infections at present... (BBC, May 31, 2021)
