WHO validates Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use

The World Health Organization (WHO) has approved the Sinovac-CoronaVac COVID-19 vaccine, produced by Sinovac, for emergency use, thus assuring countries, funders, procuring agencies and communities that the vaccine satisfies international standards for safety, efficacy and manufacturing. 

WHO Assistant-Director General for Access to Health Products, Dr Mariângela Simão, said that the world is in desperate need of several COVID-19 vaccines in order to tackle the global access inequity, urging manufacturers to participate in the COVAX Facility, share the data and help in controlling the pandemic.

WHO’s Emergency Use Listing (EUL) is necessary for COVAX Facility vaccine supply and international procurement. It enables countries to accelerate their own regulatory approval for import and administration of COVID-19 vaccines… (WHO, June 1, 2021)
