China reports first human case of rare bird flu strain

China has reported the first human case of a rare bird flu strain. A 41-year-old man has been reported to be the first human case of infection with H10N3 strain.

While officials have not provided any details on how the individual got infected, the H10N3 strain is considered to not easily spread through human-to-human transmission. The patient has recovered and will soon be discharged.

Contact tracing failed to identify any other cases of the virus. Beijings National Health Commission (NHC) had stated that the resident of the city of Zhenjiang was admitted to the hospital on 28 April and was diagnosed with H10N3 a month later… (BBC, June 2, 2021)
