France to start vaccinating teenagers from June 15

France is set to begin vaccinating its teenagers, starting age 12, with the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine on June 15, stated the government. The move is aimed at preventing school closures in September due to COVID-19.

Fresh COVID-19 cases in France have been below 10,000 for two straight days and the daily death count has shown a steep decline from last week, thus decreasing the pressure on hospitals.

Vaccinations against COVID-19 began late last year in France, with priority given to care home residents. The country gradually widened the eligibility. From May 31, vaccines were made available to everyone above the age of 18. Now, in the latest development, from June 15, people aged 12 to 18 will be eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine… (Reuters, June 3, 2021)
