Victoria in Australia found Delta COVID-19 variant in latest outbreak

According to Victoria state authorities in Australia, genomic sequencing has identified for the first time the Delta COVID-19 virus variant among cases in the latest outbreak in the state capital of Melbourne.

Victoria state Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said that the new variant had not been found in any sequenced COVID-19 cases from hotel quarantine or anywhere else. Two COVID-19 cases in Victoria have been found to have the Delta variant of concern, which has probably led to the latest wave of COVID-19 infections in India. The Australian state is fighting hard to control its latest outbreak of 65 cases since May 24, after over three months of zero cases… (Reuters, June 4, 2021)
