Taking More Steps a Day Tied to Longer Life

Taking more steps every day, whether in short spurts or longer bouts, has been found to be linked with a longer life in women above 60 years of age, report data from over 16,000 participants in the Womens Health Study.

The study included 16,732 women recruited in the Womens Health Study. All study participants wore waist step counters 4-7 days a week from 2011 through 2015. The average age of the women was 72 years and the average BMI was 26 kg/m2. Each initial escalation of 1,000 steps including sporadic or bouted steps was tied to a 28% reduction in death, compared to no daily steps (hazard ratio, 0.72)… (Medscape)
