52% of deaths in India in May in rural areas, says report

Rural areas were the worst affected by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, compared to urban areas.

As part of a new data compendium on environmental issues by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), the ‘pandemic pointers’ indicated that 53% of new infections and 52% of deaths in the country over the last month were reported in rural districts. The report noted that India accounted for every other new COVID-19 case and every third death due to COVID-19 reported worldwide in the first 26 days of May… (ET Healthworld, June 5, 2021)
