Australia's Victoria records five new COVID cases, Delta cluster continues to grow

Australias Victoria state recorded a slight increase in locally acquired COVID-19 cases on Saturday while authorities continued to look for the source of a highly infectious variant found in a new cluster.

As 5 new local cases were added, Victorias total of COVID-19 cases climbed to 70 in the latest outbreak. One of the patients has recovered case. State capital Melbourne went into its second weekend of lockdown, expected to end on June 10. 

Restrictions were eased for the rest of the state on Friday. There were four new locally acquired cases on Friday. Authorities had identified the highly infectious Delta COVID-19 virus variant on Friday for the first time in Australia, thus raising concerns that the cases could surge… (Reuters, June 5, 2021)
