Delta COVID-19 Variant 40% More Transmissible, Says UK Health Minister

It is estimated that the Delta coronavirus variant is 40% more transmissible compared to the Alpha variant that was accountable for the last wave of infections in the UK, stated Britains health minister.

He added that fully vaccinated individuals should be equally protected against either of the variants. The Delta variant now appears to be the dominant strain in the UK, reported Public Health England.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said that the figure of 40% has been given by the government body of scientific advisors, SAGE.

The United Kingdom has vaccinated over 27 million people with two doses thus far, which is more than 50% of adults, while over 40 million have received at least one vaccine dose… (NDTV – AFP, June 6, 2021)
