Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine 100% effective in 12-15 year olds: Study

Pfizer vaccine doses, given at an interval of 21 days, to adolescents aged 12 to 15 years, appeared safe and immunogenic and led to a vaccine efficacy of 100% against COVID-19 from 7 days following the second dose, reported a new study published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

Overall, 2,260 adolescents, 12 to 15 years of age, were included in the study. Of these, 1,131 received the vaccine (BNT162b2) and 1,129 received a placebo. The study was carried out in the US. Researchers compared the vaccines reactogenicity and immunogenicity with that of another cohort of individuals aged 16 to 25 years. A lower percentage of 12-15-year-olds reported having severe headache and fatigue compared to 16-25-year-olds. Furthermore, the immune response to the vaccine in 12-15-year-olds was non-inferior to that in individuals aged between 16 and 25 years… (ET Healthworld – Timesofindia.com, June 7, 2021)
