Union Health Ministry Issues Guidelines for COVID Management in Children

The Union Health Ministry has issued guidelines for the management of COVID-19 in children amid fears that a third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic may attack those below 18 years of age. 

The document titled Comprehensive Guidelines for Management of COVID-19 in Children, advises against the use of remdesivir in children, and states that steroids should be used only for moderately severe and critically ill patients in a hospital. The ministry recommends the use of 6-Minute Walk Test among children aged above 12 to evaluate their cardio-pulmonary exercise tolerance.

The document further states that in cases of severe illness, oxygen therapy must be started immediately, fluid and electrolyte balance must be maintained, and corticosteroids must be initiated… (NDTV, June 10, 2021)
