Victoria in Australia registers zero COVID cases, lockdown ends

Victoria, Australias second most populous state, registered no locally acquired case of COVID-19 for the first time in around three weeks on Friday. State capital Melbourne came out of a two-week lockdown following an outbreak that recorded around 90 cases since May 24.

While the lockdown has ended in Melbourne, some restrictions on travel and gatherings continue to remain in place, including a rule that requires people to stay within 25 km of their homes. Neighboring states of New South Wales (NSW) and Queensland; however, are still on virus alert after an infected woman and her husband travelled from Victoria through both the states. The woman tested positive after reaching Queensland and later her husband also contracted the infection… (Reuters, June 11)
