Delta Variant 60% More Transmissible: UK

The Delta coronavirus variant appears to be 60% more transmissible in households compared to the variant that caused UK to go into a lock down in January, said the British Government.

The Delta variant has led to a spike in cases in the UK. New research from Public Health England indicates that the Delta variant is tied to about 60% increased risk of household transmission, in comparison with the Alpha variant first identified in Kent, southeast England.

The public vaccination drive has been ramped up and the government has administered two doses of a vaccine to around 29 million adults and one dose to about 41 million. The government indicated that the vaccination drive is diminishing the impact of the Delta variant, and urged the people to get both vaccine doses… (NDTV – AFP, June 12, 2021)
