India's 2nd wave of COVID-19 pandemic falls to one-fourth of peak

The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India has declined to one-fourth of its peak that was seen in early May.

The seven-day rolling average of daily cases dropped to less than 1 lakh on Friday, after a period of 67 days, to 95,101. This is slightly less than one-fourth of the 3.9 lakh case count recorded at the peak of the wave on May 8. There was a steep rise in cases during the second wave and the decline has been equally fast thus far. In mere 34 days, the seven-day average of cases dropped to a quarter of the peak, which is 3-fold faster than the fall observed during the first wave in the country.
