World Blood Donor Day is observed on 14 June every year, with the objective of increasing awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion across the globe. The day also aims to raise awareness of the vital contribution of voluntary blood donors towards national health systems. 

World Blood Donor Day also acts as an opportunity to callon governments and health authorities to take action to provide resources and align systems and infrastructures to enhance the collection of blood from voluntary, unpaid blood donors.
