Daughter accuses hospital doctors and staff in Lucknow for raping her mother

A daughter has alleged that her 40-year-old mother was beaten up by doctors and medical staff and they also raped her at a Lucknow hospital. She was discharged from this hospital a day before her death.

The family members of the deceased woman said that she died on the night of 12th June while transferring her to another hospital. The daughter also alleged she had approached Union Minister SmritiIranion Saturday, as the police refused to pay any attention to her. But the Union Minister was on a visit to Amethi. Arun Kumar, Amethi District Magistrate has organized a team on Irani’s instructions to investigate the allegations.

The woman said that her mother was admitted to the Amethi Joint District Hospital, at Gauriganj, on 6th June as she was unwell, however her condition worsened, and she was referred to the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences that is in Lucknow the next day.

She alleged that her mother was first kept in the emergency ward of the Lucknow hospital and then was shifted to a bed on the 4th floor and no family members were allowed to visit her. The daughter said that she was allowed to meet her mother after repetitive requests and found that her condition was critical. She said that her mother told her that she was beaten up and raped by doctors and medical staff.

However, a spokesperson of the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Sansthan has refuted the allegations. He said that no such allegation of rape has been reported and no complaint was received. If there is a complaint registered then an inquiry will be conducted. The daughter of the woman said that her mother was discharged on Friday night in an unconscious state and was again admitted to the Gauriganj district hospital.

The next day, she informed Irani about this incident, after which the MP spoke to the superintendent of police, district magistrate and the chief medical officer of Amethi.

Medical Superintendent, Amethi Joint District Hospital at Gauriganj, Dr P K Upadhyay said that the woman was shifted to a hospital in Lucknow on Saturday night because she had developed black fungus, however she died on the way.

Arun Kumar, District Magistrate said that an inquiry committee is set up involving the Gauriganj deputy collector, the ACMO and the deputy superintendent of police. Immediate action will be taken as the committee gives them the report.

Dinesh Singh, Superintendent of Police said that a medical examination was also conducted on the woman on Saturday but refused to give details.
