After showing a fall for two consecutive weeks, the COVID-19 deaths reported in India have shown an increase of 19% in the week ending Sunday. The rise has been majorly driven by close to 12,573 backlog deaths that were added to the tally during this period.

Deaths from earlier days comprised half of the more than 25,000 deaths recorded over the past seven days, taking the weeks toll to the highest in three weeks. Backlog deaths are deaths from previous days that were unreported owing to delays by hospitals or some other reasons.
