From Tuesday, the screening of children aged between 6 to 12 years is scheduled for the clinical trials of indigenously developed COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin, which is manufactured by Bharat Biotech.

The recruitment for clinical trials of Covaxin those aged 12 to 18 years is completed, according to the sources. They are given a single dose of the vaccine.

After the recruitment of children aged between 6-12 years, AIIMS-Delhi is going to conduct trials for the 2-6 years age group. The trials will take place at 525 centres. AIIMS Patna, Research Institute in Karnataka and Mysore Medical College are also selected to conduct these clinical trials on children.

Prabhat Kumar Singh, Director, AIIMS at Patna said that they have started recruitment for children aged between 6-12 years. Recruitments for clinical trials on children aged between 12-18 years is already over and they will be kept under observation.
