Chilblain-like Lesions Not Related to COVID-19 in New Case Series

A case series from Italy, published in JAMA Network Open, suggests that chilblain-like lesions observed in adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic are nonischemic and seem to be not related to systemic or localized SARS-CoV-2 infection.

According to investigators, the lesions are most likely benign and resolve after 2 to 6 weeks without intervention. Valentina Discepolo, of University of Naples Federico II, said that these lesions do not appear to be the manifestation of systemic inflammatory or autoimmune phenomena. Investigators assessed 17 adolescents presenting with chilblain-like lesions of the toes during the first wave of the pandemic in Southern Italy and noted that none of them had evidence of current, past, or local COVID infection… (Medscape)
