A case series from Italy, published in JAMA Network Open, suggests that chilblain-like lesions observed in adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic are nonischemic and seem to be not related to systemic or localized SARS-CoV-2 infection.

According to investigators, the lesions are most likely benign and resolve after 2 to 6 weeks without intervention. Valentina Discepolo, of University of Naples Federico II, said that these lesions do not appear to be the manifestation of systemic inflammatory or autoimmune phenomena.
