Global COVID-19 death toll surpasses 4 million

Fatalities related to COVID-19 surpassed 4 million globally on Thursday, according to a Reuters tally. 

Though the quantity of fresh cases and deaths has revealed a decay in countries like the US and Britain, several countries are facing vaccine shortages amid predominance of the Delta variant in various parts of the world. An analysis by Reuters suggests that it took more than a year for the COVID-19 death toll to reach the 2 million mark, whereas the next 2 million were added in just 166 days. The leading five countries based on total number of deaths - the United States, Brazil, India, Russia and Mexico –account for nearly 50% of all fatalities worldwide… (India Today – Reuters, June 18, 2021)
