Spain to ditch compulsory outdoor masks from June 26

Spain is set to lift the rule to wear masks outdoors from June 26, stated Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.

The decision comes after France decided to end mandatory wearing of masks outdoors amid a decline in infection rates. However, concerns continue over the spread of the Delta variant.

The cabinet will convene on June 24 to approve the lifting of the rule of wearing masks in outdoor spaces from June 26. Mask wearing has been a legal requirement indoors as well as outdoors across most of the country since last summer, irrespective of social distancing, for everyone above the age of 6. The cases of COVID-19 in Spain have been declining and around half of the population has received at least one vaccine dose, including over 90% of people above 50 years of age… (Reuters, June 18, 2021)
