The COVID-19 pandemic has shown psychological problems and sleep problems in different populations across the globe. Healthcare professionals, COVID-19 infected individuals, and the general population, affected by sleep problems, showed association with higher levels of psychological distress (including depression and anxiety), in a study. It stressed that effective programs treating sleep problems may help in reducing psychological distress and vice versa, during this ongoing pandemic.

The study also necessitated the need to design and implement appropriate programs and treatments (e.g., cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia and meditation) to assist different populations, in overcoming sleep problems. It further directed healthcare providers to simultaneously tackle sleep problems and psychological distress.
