Measles vaccine effective against SARS-CoV-2: Study

Researchers from BJ Medical College, Pune conducted a study and noted early evidence suggesting that measles-containing vaccines (MCVs) might provide some protection to children against the SARS-CoV-2 infection.

A case-control study was conducted among 548 participants, 1 to 17 years of age. Participants were divided into two groups — those who tested positive for COVID-19 and those who didn’t. Investigators noted that MCVs had a vaccine effectiveness of 87.5% against SARS-CoV-2 infection and the vaccinated subjects were found to have less severe symptoms of COVID-19 compared to those who were not vaccinated.
