Young adults in U.S. less likely to take COVID vaccine: CDC

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), younger adults in the country are taking COVID-19 vaccines at a slower rate compared to older adults. The agency further stated that if this speed of vaccination continues through August, vaccine coverage among this group will not reach the levels that have been attained for older adults.

The CDC says that there is a need to do more work in order to enhance the vaccination rates among younger adults for decreasing COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths. An analysis of vaccine rates published in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report suggests that among the 57% adults who were administered at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by May 22, the coverage was highest among those aged 65 or above and lowest among those aged between 18 and 29 years… (Reuters, June 21, 2021)
