A new article published in the Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care collated important information published regarding the use of radiation for cure from evidence and authoritative resources,to guide safe practice and prevention.

The recommendations were:

  • All efforts should be made to prevent any untoward effects of radiation.
  • Children and pediatric patients vulnerability warrants special attention.
  • Radiological investigations should be advised after clinical impact assessment by clinicians, and individual tailoring by radiologist.
  • Computed Tomographyis responsible for 24% of all radiation exposure.
  • Multidisciplinary collaboration and commitment areessentialfor radiotherapy services.
  • Radiation emergencies necessitate life-support, decontamination and ABCDE reduction approach.
  • Prenatal exposure to radiation should be avoided as far as possible.
  • The electro-magnetic fields produced by mobile phones use need consideration.
  • Protective measures must be implemented against overexposure to UV radiation, for instance, sunscreen use, shade, clothing and hats. Applying sunscreen is essential on theexposed parts of the body like the face and hands.

This article summarized that all safety measures need popularization and continuous practice with precision & perfection.
