FDA to add rare heart inflammation warning to Pfizer, Moderna COVID-19 vaccines

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is going to add a warning about rare cases of heart inflammation among adolescents and young adults to the fact sheets for the mRNA COVID-19 vaccines developed by Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna.

U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advisory groups have noted that the inflammation in adolescents and young adults is possibly tied to the vaccines; however, they say that the benefits of the vaccines outweigh the risk. The U.S. Department of Health And Human Services, U.S. doctors groups and public health officials have released a statement emphasizing that the vaccines are safe and effective and that the side effect of heart inflammation is very rare… (Reuters, June 23, 2021)
