COVID-19 vaccines ok for pregnant women: Govt

The Union Health Ministry has said that pregnant women should be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Until last month breastfeeding women were eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccine but pregnant women were not, owing to a dearth of safety and efficacy data. But now, Dr Balram Bhargava, Director-General of the Indian Council for Medical Research, has said that the ministry has given guidelines that pregnant women can be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Vaccination for pregnant women was discussed by the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) in the month of May and it was stated that based on the ongoing situation of the pandemic, NTAGI-STSC recommends that pregnant women should be vaccinated as the likelihood of exposure is very high and the benefit outweighs the risk… (NDTV (with inputs from ANI), June 25, 2021)
