Serum Institute to start Covovax trials on children in July

Serum Institute of India (SII) plans to initiate phase 2 and 3 pediatric trials of Covovax on 920 children from July. There will be 460 children each in the 12-17 years and 2-11 years age groups.

NVX-CoV2373 is a recombinant nanoparticle protein-based vaccine developed by American company Novavax and has been branded as Covovax in India. SII is partnering with Novavax and intends to launch Covovax for adults in the country by September and for children by the end of 2021. SII plans to start pediatric trials across 10 sites after getting permission from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI). The children would be followed-up for a period of six months after getting vaccinated with two doses of Covovax, administered at a gap of 21 days… (ET Healthworld – TNN, June 26, 2021)
