Registering a slight decline, India recorded 48,698 fresh COVID-19 infections and 1,183 deaths in a single day, indicated data released by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Saturday.

The total COVID-19 caseload in the country has increased to 3,01,83,143. Additionally, this is the ninth day in a row in the last two months when the number of deaths has been below 2,000. It also represents the 19th straight day when the country has recorded less than one lakh new COVID cases. The active cases in the country now stand below 6 lakh. There are 5,95,565 active cases in the country at present and there have been 3,94,493 deaths thus far.
