50% of children in Mumbai have antibodies, reveals sero-survey

BMC’s first pediatric sero-survey has revealed that more than 50% of the children surveyed in the city have antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. The results of the survey have alleviated the worries that the anticipated third wave would have a disproportionate impact on the kids. 

BMC commissioner I S Chahal called the results encouraging. The survey was conducted by doctors from the BMC-run Nair Hospital, where in 2,176 samples were collected from 24 civic wards in the city. Overall, 1,283 samples were obtained from the BMC-run Aapli Chikitsa Network and Nair Hospital, and 893 samples were obtained from two private labs. The survey was conducted from April 1 through June 15. There was an overall sero-positivity of 51.18% among children and more children from the economically weaker section had antibodies compared to those from the relatively affluent section (54.36% vs. 47.03%)… (ET Healthworld – TNN, June 29, 2021)
