Health Canada has recommended that individuals who have a history of capillary leak syndrome should not be given the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

The agency is going to update the label for the AstraZeneca and COVISHIELD vaccines to include capillary leak syndrome as a potential side effect. Health Canada as well as the Public Health Agency of Canada have been looking into this condition since it was brought to light as a potential safety concern by the European Medicines Agency in April.
