National Doctors Day is celebrated in India on July 1 each year to commemorate the birth and death anniversary of a legendary physician and the second chief minister of West Bengal, Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. 

This day is celebrated to express our gratitude towards all the doctors who have helped us in our time of need and have worked for the health of their patients. The Indian government established Doctors Day in 1991 in recognition of the contributions of Dr BC Roy. Dr Roy had played a crucial role in the establishment of the Medical Council of India as well as the Indian Medical Association.

The day is celebrated in several other countries, though on different dates. National Doctors Day 2021 is all the more important as our doctors across the country continue to fight the COVID-19 pandemic and save lives… (HT)
