India has become the third country in the world to record more than 4 lakh deaths related to COVID-19, after the US and Brazil. Besides these countries, Mexico is the only other country that has recorded over 2 lakh deaths.

Overall, ten countries have recorded over one lakh deaths due to COVID or related complications. The US tops the list with 6 lakh deaths, followed by Brazil with 5.2 lakh fatalities, India with 4.0 lakh, Mexico with 2.3 lakh and Peru with 1.9 lakh deaths. The other countries with five figure death numbers include Russia, the UK, Italy, France and Colombia.

Deaths per million population is the lowest in India, standing at 287, compared to 916 in Russia and 1,000 to 2,000 in France, Mexico, UK, and the US… (ET Healthworld – TNN, July 2, 2021)
