Europes drug regulator has said that the COVID-19 vaccines that have been approved in the European Union protect against all variants of SARS-CoV-2, including the Delta variant. However, the regulator urged active monitoring by vaccine manufacturers.

Marco Cavaleri, European Medicines Agencys (EMA) chief of vaccine strategy, said that several variants have emerged over the past months and more variants are expected, adding that it is crucial to have continuous monitoring and surveillance of the performance of all the vaccines, which have received approvals, against emerging variants.

The EMA also mentioned that data will be assessed from CureVacs (5CV.DE) COVID-19 vaccine after the German biotech company stated the shot was only 48% effective in a final evaluation… (Reuters, July 1, 2021)
