Pregnant Women in India Can Get Vaccinated Against COVID

The government has said that pregnant women can now register on the CoWIN portal or visit the vaccination centers to get their COVID-19 jab. The government further stated that the rules and procedures had been shared with the states for the program roll-out.

Until last month, lactating women were allowed to take the COVID-19 vaccine but pregnant women were not. The government stated that this was due to a scarcity of safety and efficacy data as pregnant women are not usually included in the clinical trials for vaccines. The Health Ministry has now issued guidelines that the vaccine against COVID-19 can be given to pregnant women, said the Director-General of the Indian Council for Medical Research, Dr Balram Bhargava, reported ANI… (NDTV, July 2, 2021)
