J&J COVID-19 vaccine shows promise against Delta variant of coronavirus

Johnson & Johnson has stated that its single-dose COVID-19 vaccine has shown promise against the highly transmissible Delta variant in a laboratory study.

Investigators evaluated blood from eight patients and noted that immune responses elicited by the vaccine against the Delta variant were found to be at a higher level compared to that against the Beta variant. Johnson & Johnson Chief Scientific Officer, Paul Stoffels, stated that the J&J vaccine vaccine appears to offer lasting protection against the coronavirus and evokes neutralizing response against the Delta variant. Disease experts are of the opinion that booster shots of the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccines may be needed after the J&J jab in order to improve its effectiveness against the Delta variant. U.S. public health officials stated that there seems to be no clinical evidence to support the move… (Reuters July 2, 2021)
