Johnson & Johnson has stated that its single-dose COVID-19 vaccine has shown promise against the highly transmissible Delta variant in a laboratory study.

Investigators evaluated blood from eight patients and noted that immune responses elicited by the vaccine against the Delta variant were found to be at a higher level compared to that against the Beta variant. Johnson & Johnson Chief Scientific Officer, Paul Stoffels, stated that the J&J vaccine vaccine appears to offer lasting protection against the coronavirus and evokes neutralizing response against the Delta variant. Disease experts are of the opinion that booster shots of the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccines may be needed after the J&J jab in order to improve its effectiveness against the Delta variant.
