Inability to gain weight persisted for months after severe COVID: Study

A retrospective study, published in the journal Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, has noted that while most gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms resolved among patients hospitalized with COVID-19, inability to gain weight continued for months.

About 50.6% of the patients failed to regain weight at 3 months, and around 32.4% reported an inability to gain weight after 6 months, reported researchers. The percentages were found to be higher among patients with malnutrition, with 56.4% of this patient group failing to gain weight at 6 months. Gastroenteritis, GI bleeding, and pancreatiti′s appeared to resolve for most of the patients after 3 months of illness.
