Cases of COVID-19 are again on the rise in the US as the more contagious Delta variant continues to spread across the country.

States that have below-average vaccination rates are experiencing nearly three times higher rate of new infections compared to states with above-average vaccination rates, suggest latest data from Johns Hopkins University. As of Sunday, states having lower vaccination rates had an average of 6 new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents per day over the past week. On the other hand, states with higher vaccination rates registered an average of 2.2 new cases per 100,000 residents per day. Arkansas, where less than 35% of people were fully vaccinated on Sunday, recorded an average of 16 new cases per 100,000 residents per day over the past week.
