France could experience a fresh surge in COVID cases by July end on account of the spread of the more transmissible Delta variant, stated a government spokesperson.

Gabriel Attal said that over the past week, the epidemic has been gaining pace, as the Delta variant now accounts for 30% of new COVID infections across the country. He added that it is possible that a fourth wave of infections may emerge by the end of this month. French officials have stated that there has not been enough vaccination despite sufficient supplies, which could eventually result in a surge in cases.
