Delta variant accounts for over half of COVID-19 cases in the US: CDC

The more transmissible and probably a more dangerous strain of coronavirus, the Delta variant, now accounts for over half of all new COVID-19 cases in the US, suggests the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The CDC estimates that the Delta variant is accountable for 51.7% of new cases of COVID-19 in the US. The Alpha variant now constitutes 28.7% of the cases, noted the agency. The variant poses a major threat to unvaccinated individuals, said Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
