22% Children Had Significant COVID Fear, Says Study

A study conducted by the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) suggests that around 22.5% of children suffered a significant fear of COVID-19, and around 42.3% developed irritability.

In all, 15 studies involving 22,996 children or adolescents met the eligibility criteria, out of 219 records. About 34.5%, 41.7%, 42.3% and 30.8% of the children suffered from anxiety, depression, irritability and inattention, noted the study. The study also reported that children who had pre-existing behavioral problems have a higher likelihood of worsening of their behavioral symptoms. Titled "Psychological and behavioural impact of lockdown and quarantine measures for COVID-19 children on pandemic, adolescents and caregivers", the study also revealed that 52.3% and 27.4% of caregivers also developed anxiety and depression, respectively, while they were in isolation with children… (NDTV – ANI, July 6, 2021)
