In a multi-state fake favipiravir racket, an FIR has been registered against Sudip Mukherjee, owner of Max Relief Healthcare of an attempt to culpable homicide.

Mukherjee along with his partners was providing fake medicines to a firm named Aarmed Formulation, which was in Prahladnagar. The firm has registered its address at Solan in Himachal Pradesh, but no firm was found by this name.

An FDCA team reached the Aarmed office and found 133 strips of Favimax 200 and Favimax 400 tablets. An analysis was done and it revealed there was no favipiravir present in those tablets. The FIR stated that Mukherjee supplied the fake medicine knowing that it might cause harm to COVID patients.

Food and Drugs Administration also revealed that Mukherjee sold drugs to wholesalers in the state without a license. Therefore, all states were warned to stop using these drugs.

On 30th May, Mukherjee appeared before FDA but had no documents related to the production and sale of drugs. The photocopy of a license he produced looked fake. He was then handed over to Samta Nagar police station in Mumbai and was arrested on 7th June.
