Zika outbreak in Kerala, state put on alert

Kerala has been put on alert after the outbreak of Zika virus in the state. The Central government has sent experts to the state to monitor the situation and help in the management of the cases.

The number of cases increased to 14 on Friday after 13 additional samples were confirmed positive by the National Institute of Virology. A 24-year-old pregnant woman was the first person to be infected with the virus in the state. She was diagnosed on Thursday. A total of 19 samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology, and 13 were found to be positive for Zika, mentioned the State government. The state’s health minister, Veena George, said that an action plan has been developed to check the spread of the virus… (ET Healthworld – PTI, July 10, 2021)
