U.S. CDC updates school guidance, emphasizes in-person learning

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated its guidance for reopening of schools in the fall. It recommended wearing masks indoors for all those who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and also recommended maintaining a distance of three feet within classrooms.

The CDC stated that school administration can necessitate wearing of mask indoors even for those who are vaccinated, based on the needs of the community. The reasons could include schools that have students below 12 years of age, who are not currently being vaccinated, or if there are high rates of transmission in the region.

California said that all students and educators will be required to wear masks during school, stating that several of its school facilities cannot follow physical distancing… (Reuters, July 9, 2021)
