Diarrheal disease remains a leading cause of child death globally, especially in low and middle-income countries. Although the use of oral rehydration solution (ORS) for the treatment of diarrhea in children is cost-effective, its implementation remains below 50% in many countries.

A multi-level longitudinal model was utilized to reveal important predictors of ORS use at the national level.

It was suggested that increasing government effectiveness along with increased implementation and affordability of community-based health programs can lead to substantial increases in ORS use. Increasing ORS coverage canaid in reducing child mortality—between now and 2030. Measures towards increasing ORS coverage involve improving maternal and child health through - demand generation, deployment of human resources and health promotion activities at the community level, and improved governance. Effective and affordable community health programs can aid in improving the coverage of cost-effective child health services.
