Young children will likely pay the price if adults in the US do not get vaccinated at rates sufficiently high to curb the spread of COVID-19, which has been showing rising trends in most states, said a vaccine expert.

Dr. Peter Hotez, a vaccinologist and dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, said that if vaccination rates among adults and children aged 12 and above continue to be low amid a rise in the spread of the Delta variant, the younger children will be most affected. He stated that transmission will increase and the ones who will have to pay the price, besides unvaccinated adolescents, will be the little children who depend on the adults and adolescents to get vaccinated to check the virus’ transmission… (CNN, July 15, 2021)
