No COVID deaths in Delhi for first time since deadly second wave

The national capital registered zero COVID deaths in the past 24 hours on Sunday, after a span of 138 days and for the first time since the second wave. 

Delhi recorded 51 fresh coronavirus cases, as the positivity rate declined to 0.07%. The total number of active cases stood at 592. 

This year, zero deaths were reported in the city on five other days — February 9, 13, 17 and 25 and March 2. The lowest single-day addition of COVID-19 infections this year was of 45 cases, recorded on July 12. On March 2, 217 new cases were reported with a positivity rate of 0.33%, and since then, the numbers kept rising, reaching an all-time high of 25,986 cases on April 28. The city witnessed the highest number of deaths in a day at 448 on May 3.

In the month of March, Delhi recorded 117 deaths while April recorded 5,120 fatalities. In May, there were 8,090 deaths. While the daily average was 171 deaths in April, it rose to 262 in May. 

In June, the fatalities reduced considerably to 740, with a daily average of 24.7. The numbers have declined further in July. July has seen 50 fatalities thus far, with a daily average of 2.7.

On Sunday, 71,546 tests were done in the national capital, which included 50,157 RT-PCR tests and 21,389 rapid antigen tests. The positivity rate in July has been 0.1%, compared to 0.36% over the previous month.

Eighty patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the number of active cases to 592. Overall, 203 patients were in home isolation and 330 were hospitalized.
